The new time scedule for ferry Herjolfur will change our time scedule a litle bit. Our boat tours start 11 am and bus tours 11 am also. We have two up to three boat tours per day and two bus tours also. further information at the deck on Kaffi Kró our tour center.

SURTSEY UNESCO’s World Heritage List

Surtsey was inscribed as a natural property on UNESCO’s World Heritage List during the 32nd session of the The World Heritage Committee in July 2008. One of the ruling factors was that the island "has been protected since its birth, providing the world with a pristine natural laboratory. Free from human interference, Surtsey has been producing unique long-term information on the colonisation process of new land by plant and animal life."

To day we celebrate one hundred years lighthouse in Storhofdi. This day start a eruption 14 miles south west of Heimey 1963. In Three and a half year we got Surtsey nearly 3,0 Km2

The "Pufflings" are here now

The pufflings start flight to westmannaeyjar town last night. Kids go out at night with parents and pick up pufflings. It´s one of the most interesting time of the year for kids in Westman Islands.
Pompei of the North

After over three decades under volcanic rubble, the frame of the concrete structure at Suđurgata 25 is still standing. A part of a project called "Pompei of the North", the excavation will attempt to recover some of the houses that were submerged during the course of the eruption. As soon as the first house at Suđurgata has been cleared, the workers will proceed excavating down the street and further into the lava field.

Lawrence Weiner in Westmann Islands

On Sunday 15 May Lawrence Weiner from NYC took a trip by our boat Viking to release 4 planks into the sea surrounding the Westman Islands in pursuit of Reykjavik. The releasing is part of his exhibition at gallery i8 in Reykjavik who is one of the events of Reykjavik Arts festival 2005.
Our intent is to make it easier for our clients to access information and surfing through the pages.
Information is still being updated so you may expect some more changes during the next few weeks.
